According to a new report, a U.S. soldier who was arrested in Russia more than a week ago was stabbed by his Russian girlfriend during a fight that took place in front of his ex-wife and daughter on a video call several months before his detainment.

Army Sgt. Gordon Black made a surprise video call to his soon-to-be ex-wife Megan Black and their 6-year-old child, who both live in Texas, while he was stationed in South Korea at the time.

However, suddenly, the call took a violent turn.

The mother and daughter watched Black get into a shouting match with his Russian girlfriend before the woman allegedly clawed at his face and then displayed a knife, Megan told Reuters on Sunday.

“She stabbed him,” she alleged in an interview with the news outlet.

She also stated that her ex-husband “had blood on his face,” as his distraught daughter continued to watch.

Earlier reports indicated that Black had been involved in a relationship with a Russian woman named Aleksandra Vashchuk.

The latest bloody encounter came months before Black was arrested on accusations of theft after an argument broke out between the two of them in Russia’s far eastern city of Vladivostok on May 2nd, according to Russian authorities.

Black, who was stationed at Camp Humphreys outside of Seoul, but was in Russia “on personal business,” is currently being held in pretrial confinement. He reportedly broke Army rules by flying to Russia without their consent, according to the Pentagon.

Black’s mother, Melody Jones, previously told NBC News that she believes he “was lured” to Russia by Vashchuk and then set up by her. She also believes that he was arrested on charges related to stealing close to $100 from her.

Additionally, Jones also told Reuters that the pair fought “like cats and dogs.” She believed that the girlfriend was “sent back” to Russia from South Korea, due to immigration-related issues.

“I told them both: You don’t need to be together. One of you is going to get hurt one of these days,” Jones reportedly said.

Previously, Megan and Black’s marriage fell apart back in 2018 and he filed for divorce as soon as he left for South Korea. Megan said that she became aware of his Russian girlfriend in January 2022 when she discovered photos of the couple on Facebook, with the Russian girlfriend referring to Black as “her husband.”

However, Megan and their daughter did not know he was residing in Russia in the lead up to his arrest, and she had assumed that he was coming back to Texas after his tour in South Korea ended.
