(The Sports Xchange) – Craig Anderson stopped 28 shots for his second shutout of the season as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Montreal Canadiens 3-0 in the NHL100 Classic at TD Place on Saturday night.
A crowd of 33,959 braved frigid temperatures at Lansdowne Park for the league’s first outdoor game of the season.
The win was the second in a row for the Senators, who are trying to dig out of a hole they made during a 1-5-1 road trip.
Jean-Gabriel Pageau, Bobby Ryan and Nate Thompson scored for the Senators (11-13-7). Carey Price stopped 35 shots in goal for the Canadiens (14-15-4).
Pageau broke a scoreless with his fourth goal of the season at 14:55 of the second period. After losing a faceoff deep in Montreal territory, Pageau moved over to the slot while Tom Pyatt was recovering the puck in the corner.
Pyatt put the puck back to Erik Karlsson, who took a shot that Pageau deflected over Price’s left shoulder.
A dramatic finish was avoided with 2:58 left in the third when Ryan stole the puck from Jonathan Drouin inside the Montreal blue line and skated in to beat Price.
Thompson salted the win away with a long range empty-netter 11 seconds from the final buzzer.
