Google has been a carbon-neutral company since 2007, and 2019 marked its third year matching 100 percent of its electricity consumption with its renewable energy purchases. It is the largest buyer of renewable energy products in the world.

The tech giant has a goal to reach completely carbon-free energy on a 24/7 basis in the coming years, according to a blog post.

Google and Microsoft entered contracts with a number of oil and gas giants in 2018 worth billions of dollars in its efforts to deploy the use of AI and cloud technology to make oil and gas extraction more efficient, The Wall Street Journal reported in July 2018. Amazon also has contracts with a number of oil and gas companies that use its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud technology, according to Greenpeace.
