The Federal Labor Agency said Friday that the unadjusted jobless rate was down from 5.3 percent in February. In all, 2.301 million people were registered as unemployed — 72,000 fewer than the previous month and 157,000 less than a year earlier.

In seasonally adjusted terms, the unemployment rate slipped to 4.9 percent after four consecutive months at 5 percent.
