Coronavirus live updates: New Zealand delays election as cases climb

New cases of the coronavirus in the U.S. have remained stubbornly high in recent days, with the country averaging more than 51,100 new cases per day over the past seven days. Universities and schools have already begun reopening, many against a backdrop of significant community spread. Other countries, such as New Zealand, that saw early success in containing the virus are now struggling to eradicate it, facing new and mystifying clusters of infection.

  • Global cases: More than 21.7 million
  • Global deaths: At least 775,800
  • U.S. cases: More than 5.4 million
  • U.S. deaths: At least 170,000
