Transcript for Boat crashes into ferry terminal
Now to those frightening moment for those passengers on a golden gate ferry and those waiting on the dock too. ABC’s Lana Zak has more. Reporter: Overnight, panic in San Francisco as a golden gate transit ferry carrying 53 passengers rammed into a pier. Oh, my gosh. Oh. Reporter: An onlooker capturing this cell phone video of the out-of-control boat as it threatened the terminal. People at the ferry building seen running for their lives right before the crash. I thought it was going to go straight into the restaurant, so I started running. Reporter: The San francisco-bound ferry sailing from larkspur hit the ramp on the far dock first before bouncing into the corner near a gate. Two passengers injured. The boat damaged. Those on board say they had no warning of the impending impact. There was nothing over the intercom, and you would think that they would have honked a horn or anything. Reporter: Investigators are wondering what went wrong interviewing the captain and crew and conducting drug and alcohol testing. The coast guard is also looking into the computer system to determine now fast the boat was going. The vessels are inspected frequently by the U.S. Coast guard so there is a lot of oversight. Reporter: Last year in a similar incident a New York City water taxi made a hard landing injuring 30 people when it slammed into a dock on Manhattan’s west side. The situation could have been so much worse. The boat was actually operating on a holiday schedule so only 53 were on board but this ferry can carry up to 750 people. Wow, yes, it could have been much worse. We really appreciate it.
