At least two people died when a helicopter crashed into New York’s East River, according a spokesman for the city’s mayor. There was at least one survivor, Eric Phillips said in a tweet.
Six people were on board, according to the Coast Guard.
Divers were on the scene of the incident, off of New York City’s East Side, Phillips added.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m.
A video on Twitter appeared to show a red helicopter splash down into the river and tip to the side.
The helicopter was a Eurocopter AS350, the Federal Aviation Administration said. That model is sometimes used by tour companies but it was not immediately clear who the operator is.
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate, the FAA said.
