SPRING, Texas — Police in the Houston area are investigating after a couple was found shot dead in their ransacked home in a gated community Saturday evening.

Officials identified the couple Sunday evening as Bao and Jenny Lam, both 61, reports CBS affiliate KHOU. Their adult son grew concerned when he hadn’t heard from his parents for several days and contacted authorities, who forced their way into the house and found the gruesome scene.

The home in the upscale Spring subdevelopment had overturned furniture and “a lot of disruption” apparent, Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez told reporters. Authorities were investigating robbery as a possible motive, and deputies were looking into whether anything was missing from the home, he said.

Gonzalez said it’s possible the killings happened as early as Thursday.

Gonzalez said it was “very strange” for the murder to happen in the secluded community, accessible by a private drive with a code required to enter. Deputies were reviewing surveillance video for clues.

Deputies are asking for the public’s help and ask anyone with information to call the Harris County Sheriff’s Office at 713-274-9100 or call CrimeStoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
