New U.S. coronavirus cases increasingly look to have peaked, but Covid-19 hospitalizations and deaths continue to rise as they lag behind the surge in confirmed cases. Eight states, including California, Florida and Texas, all hit record-high average daily deaths on Wednesday, according to data from John Hopkins University.
