AP FACT CHECK: Trump and the not-so-middle-class tax cut

Republicans can’t say it enough — the tax plan on the table is for the middle class. But the numbers tell the tale of a tax cut tilted to the rich.

An Associated Press Fact Check finds that some in the middle could see their taxes rise while others get a modest cut. Cost projections show that the tax overhaul is geared to companies. And most of the personal savings would come from repealing the estate tax and the Alternative Minimum Tax — a change that benefits wealthy people.

Over the past week, terrorism, taxes and the Russia probe provided plenty of fodder for iffy claims by President Donald Trump and others.
