BEIJING (Reuters) – Canadian figure skater Keegan Messing has yet to be cleared to travel to China two days before the start of the Beijing Games as he awaits the results of his COVID-19 tests, the Canadian Olympic Committee said on Wednesday.

“Keegan Messing is currently still in Canada and awaiting the necessary negative COVID-19 test results for travel to Beijing,” the Canadian Olympic Committee said in a statement.

“We are hopeful he will be able to travel soon.”

The 30-year-old, who finished 12th at the 2018 Pyeongchang Games, is the Canadian national champion.

Canada will take part in the team event that starts on Friday with the men’s short program.
