A 7.5 magnitude quake struck the region at dusk Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, creating a tsunami that swept waves ashore, reaching as high as 20 feet in some places.
The death toll, largely from the city of Palu, is at least 1,234 and hundreds others injured. Officials acknowledge scores of uncounted bodies could still be buried in collapsed buildings in Sigi and Balaroa.
