Palestinians angry about the move are holding new protests on the Gaza-Israel border.

Israeli troops killed at least three dozen protesters.

Palestinians have been demonstrating for weeks, saying the U.S. is no longer a partner in the peace process.

In excerpts of a speech released by the White House, President Trump’s senior adviser Jared Kushner was expected to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

“We believe it is possible for both sides to gain more than they give – so that all people can live in peace – safe from danger, free from fear, and able to pursue their dreams,” Kushner, Mr. Trump’s son-in-law, was expected to say. “Jerusalem must remain a city that brings people of all faiths together.”

For Mr. Trump, it’s a proud moment and the fulfillment of a promise, which Kushner also addresses.

“While presidents before him have backed down from their pledge to move the American Embassy once they were in office, this president delivered,” Kushner was expected to say. “Because when President Trump makes a promise, he keeps it.”

The president’s daughter Ivanka Trump and Kushner, her husband, are representing the president at Monday’s ceremony.

Kushner was also expected to speak about Iran less than a week after Mr. Trump pulled the U.S. out of the Iran nuclear deal, a move supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who was sitting next to Kushner at Monday’s ceremony.

“Iran’s aggression threatens the many peace-loving citizens throughout the region and the world,” Kushner was expected to say. “From Israel to Jordan to Egypt to Saudi Arabia and beyond, many leaders are fighting to modernize their countries and create better lives for their people. In confronting common threats, and in pursuit of common interests, previously unimaginable opportunities and alliances are starting to emerge.”
