Trump says he knew Republicans Moore, Gillespie would lose

President Donald Trump says he knew Republicans Roy Moore and Ed Gillespie would lose their elections, but that he still believes the GOP will “do well in 2018,” when control of Congress is at stake.

In an early morning tweet, Trump wrote: “I said Gillespie and Moore would lose (for very different reasons), and they did. I also predicted ‘I’ would win. Republicans will do well in 2018, very well!”

Trump initially had endorsed Luther Strange for Alabama’s Senate seat. But after Strange lost the GOP primary to Moore, Trump swung behind Moore. On election day, Trump wrongly predicted that voters would reject Moore’s Democratic rival: “The people of Alabama will do the right thing.”

Democrat Ralph Northam defeated Ed Gillespie in the Virginia gubernatorial race this fall.
