Trump health pick facing questions about rising drug prices

Democratic senators say they’re skeptical about President Donald Trump’s new pick for health secretary. They’ll get to publicly question Alex Azar for the first time Wednesday.

The 50-year-old Azar has signaled he wants to shift the polarized health care debate away from partisanship.

He’ll get a chance to explain how when he goes before the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions committee.

The former drug company and government executive already has taken heat over high prescription drug prices.

With strong GOP backing, Azar is expected to win confirmation. The question seems to be whether he can pick up at least some Democratic votes.

Some prominent Democrats worked with Azar during his previous government service in the George W. Bush years, and they seem willing to give him a chance.
