Standoff after cop shot dead, 2 others wounded

CLINTON, Mo. — One Clinton police officer was killed in a shooting at a house late Tuesday night and two others were wounded, the Missouri Highway Patrol says. There was no early word on the condition of the two wounded officers.

The Clinton Police Department, Henry County Sheriff’s Office, and Missouri State Highway Patrol raced to the scene, reports CBS Kansas City, Missouri affiliate KCTV. The Missouri Highway Patrol confirms its SWAT Team was also there.

The Clinton Fire Department issued a statement urging everyone to avoid the area — saying the shooter was barricaded in the home and adding, “Please understand the emotional side of this event for those involved and please refrain from posting on social media any information obtained by either radio traffic or by means of speculation.”

But then, this update on Twitter:

There was no initial word on how the suspect died.
