The Georgia Senate runoff races both remain toss-ups as the vote counting continued past midnight on Wednesday  The race between Democrat Raphael Warnock and Loeffler was leaning toward Warnock as of midnight Wednesday. The other race, between incumbent Perdue and Jon Ossoff, was a toss up.

Statewide, election workers are ahead of schedule in their counting, and 96% of the vote has been reported.

The closely-watched Senate runoff will determine which party controls the Senate — and possibly how much of President-elect Joe Biden’s agenda can be accomplished in the first two years of his presidency.

Exit polling indicated there were few crossover voters, meaning most Georgians’ ballots mirrored the choices they made in November.

There’s always a dropoff in turnout between general elections and runoffs, but the pace of early voting in Georgia’s Senate runoffs has been tremendous and points to very high turnout, perhaps around 4 million total votes.

Mr. Biden’s surprise win in Georgia on Election Night provided him with 16 Electoral College votes, and Democrats are hoping for another good night.

Both Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden campaigned in Georgia this week, with Mr. Trump using his rally on the eve of the election as an opportunity to push his baseless claims of voter fraud.

Republicans only need one seat to keep their Senate majority, while Democrats need both to make it a 50-50 tie. In the case of a tie, Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, in her capacity as president of the Senate, would cast the deciding vote.
