German industrial production rebounds in strong economy

Official data show that industrial production in Germany, Europe’s biggest economy, picked up strongly in November after two months of declines.

The Economy Ministry said Tuesday that production was up 3.4 percent compared with the previous month. It said that was expected after an October that was heavy on public holidays, but healthy order books and near-record business confidence point to a good performance in the coming months.

Data released Monday showed a slight decline in factory orders in November after three months of gains, but that dip was put down largely to fluctuations in bulk orders.

A preliminary figure for 2017 economic growth is due on Thursday.
