On Friday night President Trump decided to remind his 57.5 million Twitter followers that it was a “very sad day for journalism.”
Trump once called BuzzFeed a “failing pile of garbage.” He wasn’t wrong!
To make matters worse for the ‘Fake News’ publication, on Friday, Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team released a rare statement before 8:00 pm last night claiming the outlet got its facts wrong.
Trump tweeted:
Remember it was Buzzfeed that released the totally discredited “Dossier,” paid for by Crooked Hillary Clinton and the Democrats (as opposition research), on which the entire Russian probe is based! The BuzzFeed story alleged that Trump instructed his former attorney, Michael Cohen, to lie to Congress about real estate deals in Russia.
Even though there are Democrats who are entrenched in ‘Fake News’ from many outlets, I am skeptical about who would have believed the fake BuzzFeed story.
On Friday special counsel spokesman Peter Carr said in a statement, “BuzzFeed’s description of specific statements to the Special Counsel’s Office, and description of documents and testimony obtained by this office, regarding Michael Cohen’s Congressional testimony are not accurate.”
Mueller’s team usually has no comment on news stories but in this case, they seemed to have the need to release the rare statement.
The BuzzFeed report was based on two anonymous sources. It claimed that Trump directed Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about a Trump Tower project in Moscow during the 2016 presidential election.
FALSE!
BuzzFeed also claims Mueller learned of the instructions to lie to Congress from “interviews with multiple witnesses from the Trump Organization and internal company emails, text messages, and a cache of other documents.”
FALSE again!
Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, came forward as well. Giuliani issued a statement praising the Mueller team for rebutting the story. He also suggested the Department of Justice should go after the leakers of the false information.
Giuliani tweeted:
Now the DOJ must reveal the leakers of this false BuzzFeed story which the press and Democrats gleefully embraced. I commend Bob Mueller’s office for correcting the BuzzFeed false story that Pres. Trump encouraged Cohen to lie. I ask the press to take heed that their hysterical desire to destroy this President has gone too far. BuzzFeed is less than admitting that they published a false story. Ben Smith, BuzzFeed’s editor-in-chief, issued a statement repeating that the outlet stands “by our reporting and the sources who informed it” and urged the special counsel “to make clear what he’s disputing.”
I don’t know what sources they believe to be truthful but it is quite clear to me that the story was false.
