The world’s second-largest economy has responded to President Donald Trump’s controversial trade tariffs.
Early on Friday, China’s commerce ministry said it proposed a list of 128 U.S. products that had an import value of $3 billion in 2017 as potential retaliation targets.
Beijing will take measures against the U.S. goods in two stages if it cannot reach a trade agreement with Washington, the ministry stated.
Recent U.S. trade actions “severely damage” the multilateral trading system and the “normal order of global trade,” it continued.
The ministry also urged the U.S. to resolve its issues with China “as soon as possible” to avoid harming the bilateral relationship.
