How to watch the 2022 Emmy Awards

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards are almost here, and with an especially exciting batch of nominees, it’s an event TV fans won’t want to miss. 

HBO’s “Succession” leads the charge this year with 25 nominations in yet another Emmys cycle dominated by streaming platforms. Apple TV+’s “Ted Lasso” trails behind in second place with 20 nominations — tying the series’ total from last year. HBO and HBO Max boast the most overall nominations this year at 140. Netflix is in second with 105.

This year’s ceremony will return to its pre-pandemic location, the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, after two years away. The 2022 awards show will air live coast-to-coast on NBC and stream on Peacock, meaning this year, the Emmys are on a Monday, to accommodate “Sunday Night Football.”

When are the 2022 Emmys?

The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on Monday, Sept. 12, at 8 p.m. EDT (5 p.m. PDT).

Where can I stream the 2022 Emmys? 

NBC’s own streaming platform, Peacock, offers an easy way to stream the ceremony, but subscribers to Hulu’s live TV plan can also easily tune in. If you don’t have access to either, don’t worry: Both streaming services are currently offering big discounts ahead of the ceremony. The 74th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live on NBC and will be available to all subscribers to stream in real time or on-demand afterwards on Peacock. 

Right now, for a limited time, new subscribers can get ad-supported Peacock Premium for just $1.99 per month, or $19.99 if you prepay for the whole year. That’s more than half off Peacock’s usual price.

Hulu + Live TV

Hulu + Live TV includes access to NBC, so subscribers will be able to watch the 2022 Emmy Awards live in real time. Subscribers can also stream Emmy-nominated series such as “The Handmaid’s Tale,” “PEN15,” “Shrill” and “Black-ish” on Hulu.

How can I watch the 2022 Emmys live for free?

You can access your local NBC channel and watch the Emmy Awards live on TV using a TV antenna or your existing cable TV subscription.

The 74th annual Academy Awards will be broadcast on local NBC stations, so a digital antenna is a great option for watching the ceremony and red carpet if you don’t have a cable or a streaming subscription. Who’s hosting the 2022 Emmys?

This year, the 74th Emmy Awards will be hosted by six-time Emmy nominee and “Saturday Night Live” star Kenan Thompson.

“Being a part of this incredible evening where we honor the best of the television community is ridiculously exciting, and to do it on NBC — my longtime network family — makes it even more special,” the comedian said.

The competition is fierce this year, with HBO and HBO Max collectively leading the pack with 140 nominations. Netflix follows with 105 nominations. Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, Hulu and Apple TV+ also dominate many of the most-anticipated categories of the evening.

Some notable nominations include returning Emmy contenders such as Netflix’s “Stranger Things;” HBO Max’s “Succession;” Donald Glover, for his performance in the long-awaited third installment of “Atlanta,” and Issa Rae for “Insecure.”
