Dow, S&P add to record highs on eve of Fed decision

Wall Street continued to march higher on Tuesday, as bank stocks and Boeing (BA) helped push the Dow and S&P 500 to new records.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average closed about 119 points higher at 24,505. The S&P 500 gained 4 points to 2,664. The Nasdaq Composite shed 12 points to 6,862.

In addition to financials, telecom stocks contributed to the market’s gains. The sector jumped roughly 2.8% during the session.

Investors are closely watching the Federal Reserve, which concludes its two-day policy meeting Wednesday. The central bank is expected to announce an increase in interest rates.
