DOJ said to investigate AT&T, Verizon over wireless collusion claim: NYT

(Reuters) – The U.S. Justice Department has opened an antitrust probe into potential coordination by AT&T <T.N>, Verizon <VZ.N> and a telecommunications standards organization to hinder consumers from easily switching wireless carriers, the New York Times reported on Friday, citing six people with knowledge of the inquiry.

The investigation was opened about five months ago after at least one device maker and one wireless carrier filed formal complaints with the Justice Department, the report said.

DOJ declined to comment on the report Verizon and AT&T could not be immediately reached for comments.
