December’s ISM non-manufacturing index signals better-than-expected expansion

December’s ISM non-manufacturing index came in at 55.0, according to data released Tuesday. Economists polled by Dow Jones expected the reading to come in at 54.3. 

December’s reading is up from November’s reading of 53.9. A figure above 50 indicates expansion in the sector.
